ChildFund has received a significant boost to its education programming through the donation of 93,300 assorted books from Books for Africa and 6,000 solar lamps from Unite to Light under the Community Support Project. The learning resources are set to benefit learners in underserved rural communities across Zambia.
The books and solar lamps will be distributed to selected schools and community resource centres in 21 rural districts, reaching both in-school and out-of-school children and young people. This initiative is designed to improve access to quality learning materials, strengthen literacy development, and support safer, more conducive study environments for learners facing multiple barriers to education.
Through this intervention, ChildFund will support the strengthening of literacy clubs established across all 5 local partner organizations, creating inclusive spaces where children can engage with relevant, age-appropriate reading materials. Increased access to books is expected to foster a stronger reading culture, improve foundational literacy skills, and enhance academic performance.

In many of the targeted communities, limited access to reliable electricity has long restricted study time. The provision of solar lamps is therefore expected to have an immediate and lasting impact, enabling learners to study after dark, complete homework, and participate more fully in educational activities.
Commenting on the donation, Country Director Victor Koyi emphasized the importance of the support: “These resources are critical in helping us bridge learning gaps faced by children in rural communities. Access to books and reliable lighting can transform a child’s educational journey by creating opportunities to learn, read, and grow beyond the classroom. Through partnerships such as these, we are working to ensure that every child has the chance to reach their full potential.”
The distribution forms part of ChildFund’s broader commitment to promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education, particularly for children affected by poverty, geographic isolation, and other vulnerabilities. Working closely with community leaders, schools, and local partners, the organisation continues to invest in solutions that enable children to learn, thrive, and become confident.
